What I Wish More People Knew Before Planning a Big Trip

Planning a big trip is exciting—but it can also feel surprisingly overwhelming.

I often talk to people who start out feeling confident, only to find themselves buried in tabs, opinions, and options. Flights, resorts, dining, transportation, timing… it adds up quickly. And suddenly, something that was supposed to be fun starts to feel stressful.

Here are a few things I wish more people knew before diving into the planning process.

You don’t have to know everything to get started.

Many people think they need to have all the answers before reaching out for help—where they’re going, when, how long, and exactly what they want to do. The truth is, you don’t.

Some of the best trips start with a simple idea or even just a feeling: relaxing, magical, adventurous, or easy. Part of my job is helping turn that into a clear plan.

More options don’t always mean better ones

The internet is full of recommendations, lists, and “must-dos.” While research can be helpful, too many choices often create confusion.

Knowing what’s worth it for your specific trip—and what you can skip—makes all the difference. Planning isn’t about doing everything; it’s about doing the right things for you.

The details matter more than most people realize

It’s easy to focus on the big pieces like where you’re staying or which park or destination you’re visiting. But the smaller details—timing, logistics, transitions, and backups—are what shape how smooth the experience actually feels.

These are the things people usually don’t see… until something goes wrong.

Travel planning doesn’t end once you book

A lot can change between booking and travel day. Flights adjust, policies shift, questions come up, and plans evolve.

Having someone who stays involved, keeps an eye on things, and is there when you need support can turn a stressful moment into a simple fix.

You deserve to enjoy the process—not just the trip

Planning doesn’t have to feel like a second job. It can feel calm, organized, and even fun when you know someone is handling the details with care.

My goal is always to make sure my clients feel confident, supported, and excited—before they ever leave home.

If you’re planning a big trip and finding yourself unsure where to start, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out on your own either.
